A Very Successful National Debut!

I am inviting you  ...

The debut of the ''I am inviting you ...''  initiative proved very successful for L’Arche in Canada. Almost half of our communities participated in some way in the initiative, intended to raise L’Arche’s public profile on the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, December 3rd.

To support the communities participating in this initiative, a new web site was established. On this site, the people who are at the very heart of our communities spoke for themselves.

L'Arche Cape Breton collaboration was greatly appreciated with their very beautiful I am video.

The site also took on an international dimension thanks to the participation and collaboration of L’Arche Haiti, and El Arca in Argentina.

On the French side, L'Arche en France with its collections of À fleurs de mots videoclips did give a very special scope to the French version of the site.

More than 1000 visits were made to the sides o sites during 2 days and, we have also received a large number of appreciative acknowledgements, suggesting perhaps that the initiative should be repeated and expanded each year as we mark this international Day.

We also received accounts from various communities, including L'Arche Hamilton, L'Arche-Montreal, and L'Arche Agapè – each indicating that they were ready to do it again..

Huguette Roy (District Councillor), Benoit Dorais (Mayor of the Borough) attended the event.
Very Enjoyable “5 à 7” in Montreal*

Thirty people, about half of them guests, participated in this special event marking the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The “pantomime” performed by core members, the video profiling Jean Vanier, the talk given by the borough’s new mayor and, especially, the great wine and cheese - all contributed to this successful celebration.

We believe we should hold this event annually to signal L’Arche Montréal’s presence on the celebration of this international Day. A dozen other communities across Canada held similar events.

*A “5 à 7” is the term used in Quebec for an open house or cocktail party held from about 5 pm to 7 pm.
