L'Arche Halifax Opens Its Doors

It has been a long wait but 2010 is the year L'Arche Halifax opens its doors as people begin moving in!

It was in September 2008 the eight people to be welcomed into L'Arche Halifax as its first core members were named and on the weekend of January 9, 2010 the first four of these people finally moved in!  Who knew it would take so long!?

The journey to get the doors of the house opened has been a long and, at times, complicated one as we tried hard to reach new understandings with our government officials while staying true to our vision.  We have built a new house that has been divided into two homes: Vanier House and Cana House.  Vanier House will be home to five people with disabilities when all have arrived; Cana House, to three.

And we are, of course, welcoming assistants.  We have been blessed with the arrival of many new assistants and are almost at capacity at the moment.  Some of our assistants are brand new to L'Arche and some know L'Arche well.  In fact, we are doubly blessed as each community in our region is represented on our founding team by assistants who have spent time in them.  What a gift to have such history at our beginning.

Within the next month everyone will be moved in and we will start planning the party so long awaited!  We will let you all know the date so you can smile with us on that day.  In the meantime please keep us in your prayers as we take our first tentative steps together in living community and relationship each and every day.
